Evergreen plans for a new order of 52,000 containers

Evergreen shipping line (Evergreen Marine Corporation) has announced plans through its subsidiaries to order orders to buy more than 52,000 containers, with a payment of at least 45.41 million USD.

Before that, Evergreen also placed a number of container purchase orders in December 2020.

In application submitted to the Stock Exchange of Taiwan on January 27, 2021

  • Evergreen shipping line said its subsidiary, Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd, will order 8,500 containers from Chinese container manufacturer CXIC Group Containers Ltd, with a total price of $ 45.41 million. Negotiations for another 44,000 container order through another Evergreen subsidiary, Greencompass Marine SA, are underway.
  • Container shortages are acute in Asia, as empty containers are slowly being brought in from North America to export ports. This is due to the fact that transpacific freight rates reached the highest level in 10 years in September and the volume of backward container shipping decreased.

In 2020, container freight rates surpassed 10-year highs, allowing Evergreen to record a net profit of TWD12.6 billion ($ 434.11 million) in the first nine months of 2020, compared to 103. , 74 million TW (3.34 million USD) in the previous year.

While other media have reported that Evergreen plans to order new construction of many ships with a capacity of 15,000 TEU, the company said nothing has been officially confirmed about this.
